A number of actors, actresses and other celebrities have applied for a housing lottery to be held by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) on August 10. The MHADA has received 1,69,702 applications, but only 972 homes in three Mumbai neighbourhoods – Tungwa Pawai, Goregaon, and old Magathane – will be up for grabs at the lottery.
The list of celebrities includes Tanuj Mahashabde, Seema Biswas, Hemangi Kavi, Shruti Marathe and Shaila Kanekar
MHADA organises lotteries to make affordable housing available to people from various sections of society. Thanks to the concessions it offers, its prices are lower than market prices. This explains why MHADA residences are in huge demand despite a real estate slump. Since its founding in 1977, the development authority has built over 4.5 lakh residences, and the number of applications for its lotteries has increased substanially over the years.
The lottery results will be declared on the official website Mhada.maharashtra.gov.in.
