SC orders Unitech to pay back Rs 16 crore to 39 house owners

Over delay in completing the housing project, Vista in Gurgaon, the Supreme Court today ordered Unitech to refund an amount of Rs 16 crore to 39 flat buyers. The apex court denied to rely on Unitech’s assurance of possession by 2017.

Unitech has already deposited 15 crore to the investors and the court has ordered for a deposit of another 2 crore in four weeks.

Following the builder failing to give possession on scheduled time, more than 20 house owners had approached the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. On a response to the owners’ complaint the commission had ordered Unitech to pay back the deposited amount, with interest.

Yesterday, the Noida authority had also accused the real estate firm for selling flats “without obtaining necessary approvals” from it. Unitech claimed that it had already sold 80 per cent of a total of 1,792 flats in the under-construction group housing project in sector 113. The authority charged the firm for not taking building layout map sanctions for the construction of sixteen 13-storey towers.

The next court hearing of the Gurgaon housing project case against Unitech will be heard in the Supreme Court on January 2.
